Sunderland kept their impressive League One run going last night with a routine 3-0 win against Rochdale at the Stadium of Light.
They maintained their push for automatic promotion with three first-half goals against a completely dominated Rochdale side.
Former Oxford man Chris Maguire had a hand in all three goals but was overshadowed by Lynden Gooch who actually bagged a brace. Gooch broke into the area to meet Maguire’s cross on 11 minutes to give his side the lead before another cross saw Eoghan O’Connell shank the ball into his own net for 2-0 minutes later.
Just after the half-hour mark, ruthless Sunderland added a third. Luke O’Nien’s initial low effort from another Maguire cross was saved, but Gooch was hand to prod home the rebound.
Whilst Maguire’s runs were the source of much of Rochdale’s misery, Gooch’s recent form has been sensational. The academy graduate from California has been in great form and is a key component in Sunderland’s drive up the table.
That’s certainly the feeling of these fans, who were quick to praise their attacker on social media.
Gooch must be shattered no idea how he’s still going

Sunderland better pray for promotion because if it doesn’t happen Gooch is as good as gone.

Another successful trip to Sunderland. The people here are like family. I kinda hope my plane gets cancelled so I stay here forever but that’s not how life works. I apologize to nobody for screaming “Gooch” & “USA” the whole first half #SAFCinUSA

Might as well give him the Ballon d’Or now, save them doing it in December. #safc
