Rotherham United slipped off the top of the League One table this afternoon with a 2-1 defeat against promotion rivals Peterborough United and London Road.
Ivan Toney gave the hosts a 2nd-minute lead, enhancing his reputation with yet another goal which surely adds a bit more onto the price tag being touted about. The Celtic target bagged after a Rotherham corner broke down and Siriki Dembele broke away and teed him up.
It was 2-0 in the middle of the half when Bristol City loanee Sammie Szmodics netted after a Dan Butler assist. Michael Ihiekwe met Dan Barlaser’s cross to reduce arrears before the break, but the second period brought no further goals.
What it did bring, in the eyes of Rotherham fans at least, was some inconsistent refereeing that had their supporters fuming. Whilst for 90 minutes, and eight more in stoppage time, there didn’t seem to be any decisions that directly affected the result. However, Scott Oldham certainly irked these Millers’ fans on social media, after missing what they felt was a nailed-on handball in the box in the very last minute of the encounter.
When that’s put again the foul count: 15 fouls awarded against their side and only seven against the hosts, it has left some Millers fans incandescent with rage.
