‘Glory hunters’, ‘Tunnel rats’ – These Tranmere fans react as Man Utd scheduled to visit

Tranmere pulled off an FA Cup surprise last night by beating Premier League Watford 2-1 after extra time.

The Prenton Park outfit had been 3-0 down in the first tie, coming back to draw 3-3 and earn a replay. The Hornets couldn’t show the competition, nor the game, the respect it deserved and fielded a young, inexperienced side. Having only been in Premier League action on Tuesday, it was a much-changed side that ended up going out of the cup they reached the final of last season.

Manny Monthe was the Tranmere hero, grabbing the winner in extra time to set up a fourth-round tie with Manchester United, to be played Sunday. it’s a tough schedule for Tranmere, not least for their staff who have to turn around ticket sales in one working day.

Predictably,  fans have flocked to Prenton Park for tickets which has prompted fans to come to twitter to make their observations. Having recently been in the National League, Tranmere have had two promotions in as many years and a tie like this can seriously impact their finances and fortunes going forward.

It also gives some floating fans extra impetus to watch their local team, something that’s not always welcome as you’ll read below.
