Sunderland have signed Bristol City defender Bailey Wright on loan until the end of the season.
The twenty-seven-year-old has made over one hundred Championship outings in his career and boasts twenty-four caps for Australia.
Wright spent seven years at Preston North End before signing for the Robins in 2017. He was part of the Lilywhites side that won promotion from League One via the playoffs in 2015, making thirty-one appearances.
The centre-half is the current club captain at Ashton Gate, but he’s struggled for game time this season. His contract set to expire in the summer after making a total of seventy-two league outings for the Robins. A serious thigh injury picked up in 2018 saw him miss eight months of football and slip down the pecking order and lead to him arriving in the departure lounge at the Championship outfit.
Many Bristol City fans were very complimentary about the old school stopper when they took too social media to react to the signing. While plenty of Sunderland fans questioned why it was only a loan deal, Robins fans were quick to tell them they had signed an excellent player at League One level, a solid professional who will add strength and leadership to their defence.
Here is a selection of responses to the signing by Bristol City fans on Twitter.

Hell of a signing there. Would have improved a lot of bottom half Championship defences, got yourselves a good one there.

Always liked him, never flinched.
Getting a decent move before you outstay your welcome is being a footballer done well.
Best of luck to him.
