‘Want him permanently’ – These Sunderland fans react as they prepare to pip Peterborough to transfer target

Sunderland are lining up a move for Greg Docherty, the Rangers midfielder who has previously been on loan with Shrewsbury, as reported by the Northern Echo.

Docherty had been coveted by a fellow League One side, but he now looks set to make a move to the Stadium of Light on a six-month loan deal. He returned to Rangers after a spell with Shrewsbury but has not forced himself into Steven Gerrard’s plans.

That’s alerted Phil Parkinson, who is looking to add strength to the middle of the park following the departure of Dylan McGeouch. Docherty reportedly trained away from the first-team yesterday as he looks set for the Ibrox exit.

He’s also thought to be a target for Charlton Athletic, meaning Parkinson is looking to get a deal done quickly before the 23-year-old has his head turned. He’s already rejected a move to the Black Cat’s fellow League One side Peterborough.

Would Docherty fit nicely in the system at Sunderland? A Rangers fan is quoted as saying he has a great engine and will run all day, but how do Sunderland fans feel? You can find out below.
