Leeds United are amongst a host of Championship sides chasing Coventry City’s exciting midfielder Zain Westbrooke.
A report this morning on Sky Sports Transfer Centre suggests Cardiff City and Bristol City are also weighing up a move for the former Chelsea trainee. At the same time, Teamtalk claim West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Nottingham Forest are also interested.
The twenty-three-year-old Sky Blues star is enjoying impressive form this season having scored four goals and provided four assists to help boss Mark Robins guide his men to third in the table.
After leaving Chelsea for Brentford, Westbrooke signed for Coventry in 2018, and he’s quickly established himself in the first-team. Indeed, this campaign he’s played in several different roles in the Sky Blues midfield, making twenty-five appearances in what is starting to become a sustained League One promotion challenge by the former Premier League club.
Reports suggest Coventry value Westbrooke at £2 million. The sought-after youngster is out of contract in the summer with Coventry yet to extend his deal. However, the club has a one year option, in their favour which they are likely to trigger to take the player’s contract to July 2021.
Our View
Westbrooke is a tremendous player who is now starting to realise the potential he showed at Chelsea and Brentford.
He can play a variety of roles in midfield, but he’s recently been starring just behind a lone striker in a system that has brought ten goals in three games for Mark Robins team.
While Coventry will be desperate to keep hold of him, every player has his price and if any of the clubs mentioned match Coventry’s valuation; he could well be on his way, even though the Sky Blues could well be in the Championship next season.
At this time of year, almost everyone is linked with Leeds, so it is anyone’s guess whether they are interested, but one thing is clear, Westbrooke would be a decent signing for any of the clubs mentioned.
