Bristol Rovers have signed Derby County winger Jayden Mitchell-Lawson on loan for the remainder of the season.
The twenty-year-old started his career at Swindon Town before joining the Rams in 2016. He’s made two senior substitute appearances for the Championship outfit and heads to the Memorial Stadium in search of first-team football after impressing in Derby’s Under-23 side.
The highly regarded youngster is the first signing of the window for the Gas who are enjoying a decent campaign. They currently sit just outside the League One play-off places, and manager Ben Garner was delighted to get his man early before a busy period for his side. Rovers are in action on Wednesday night in the third round of the EFL Trophy before entertaining Doncaster Rovers in a crucial league game at the weekend.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: ‘He is a player I have watched over the last 18 months & the recruitment team have also done a lot of homework on him. The staff at Derby speak very highly of Jayden & we thank them for their help in getting the deal done so smoothly.’
‘Jayden showed a strong desire to join us, which was important. His attributes will add to what we already have in the squad, and we are pleased that we have been able to conclude the deal early, ahead of what will be a busy week for the club, with two important fixtures at the Mem.’
The Skillful winger was also happy to get the deal over the line and outlined his strong ambition to play when he said: ‘I’ve come here to help the team get to where they want to be.’
Judging by the reaction to the move by plenty of Derby fans on social media, Rovers can look forward to some exciting performances from Mitchell-Lawson in the coming months.
