Ipswich Town’s poor run of form continued yesterday as they were held by Gillingham in the Boxing Day clash.
Paul Lambert’s side remained second in the table following the draw, but were outplayed by Steve Evans’ side. The Blues didn’t get a single shot on target, only managing seven off target. Their opponents, in the bottom half of the table, had 15 efforts off target and five on target.
Whilst the Tractor Boys are still in a great position to earn promotion back to the Championship, manager Paul Lambert doesn’t seem to be in the right frame of mind. He started talking about his own role as manager following the draw, making bizarre comments about his future without prompting.
“Listen, if they want to go and employ another manager – nae problem – I’ll go,” he said in his post-match interview. “It’s not a problem for me to go. I’ll leave tomorrow, I’ll leave the next day. It’s not a problem.”
He went on to say; “I ain’t the most important factor. If I’m not the guy to take Ipswich up and somebody else comes in… absolutely brilliant,” before talking about the chairman not sticking with the previous manager, Paul Hurst.
The whole interview was bizarre, Lambert seemed to be dropping hints about his future in one breath and denying them in the next. It’s certainly drawn Ipswich supporters to social media to offer their thoughts on the situation.
Utterly bizarre post-match comments from Paul Lambert. Without prompting, starts talking about his uncertain future. Full quotes on the way. #itfc

Just seen that Paul Lambert interview. Genuinely concerned about his mental health. It’s a high pressure job is football management, and those comments aren’t right at all

Paul Lambert not only putting the town fans on strings but ALSO Marcus Evans
This is the biggest back me or I’ll resign statement from Lambert i’ve seen from a manager in a long time.
Your move Marcus#itfc

Lambert was a good manager. Loyalty was never his strong point, even at Norwich there was always a sense of when he would leave. But the turning point can be traced back to when he lost Culverhouse and Karsa at Villa, he has never been the same manager since

Way too much drama being made of these comments. You can read between the lines. His post match interview with ITFC was very positive. This interview the mask slipped revealing the frustration that he must be feeling through this bad patch. Nothing more than that really.

It’s the fact he makes out like he doesn’t care either way, appalling after how much the fans have invested in him and the club. Not once has he taken any responsibility himself for any of the poor results

Have to give him till the end of the season I believe, don’t see anyone else coming in and changing anything for the better now, especially this close to the transfer window. I just hope he finds his best team and sticks to it!
