Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley is expected to be busy in January as he looks to strengthen his squad to help move the Terriers away from the Championship relegation zone and one target is Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman as reported by Football Insider
Whiteman is the Rovers club captain and recently signed a new contract at the Keepmoat. Nonetheless, the report claims Cowley is a long term admirer of the former Sheffield United trainee and sees him as a key January target.
The twenty-three-year-old has attracted interest from several Championship clubs, with Hull City failing to complete a move for him in the summer.
The all-action central midfielder left the Blades to join Rovers almost two years ago after making only twelve senior appearances, and his progress has since been outstanding. He has made one hundred and twenty outings for Donny after initially joining on loan, and his status as a key man at the club was confirmed when new boss Darren Moore appointed him to captain in the summer.
According to the report, Rovers are bracing themselves for interest in their sought-after schemer when the transfer window reopens next month, and they are determined to keep hold of him.
Our View
Cowley is likely to be linked with several players between now and January, and we feel this one is just speculation.
We cannot see Whiteman leaving so soon after signing a new contract.
