Doncaster Rovers squad is set to take a hit this January as loan striker Kazaiah Sterling is set to be recalled by Tottenham Hotspur after a failed loan spell.
The 21-year-old former England Under 18 international is in his second League One loan spell at the moment but has struggled to make an impression at the Keepmoat just as he struggled at Sunderland last season.
Football Insider reveals that Spurs feel the loan hasn’t been beneficial and are now set to take him back and push him out to another club for senior football. Sterling has played just four times for Doncaster, scoring once in the EFL Trophy against Lincoln City, but has only made one start after struggling with injury.
After eight games and one goal for Sunderland last season, it does seem as though Sterling is now moving towards a ‘last chance’ to impress with another spell out in the second part of the season. It’s believed that Rovers are complicit in sending the player back, so they can free up space in their squad to make new signings of their own in the January transfer window.
The youngster has made just two senior appearances for Spurs, with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2021.
Our View
This is a blow for Doncaster, although they may not realise it. Sterling does have quality, but currently, Rakish Bingham has more starts and appearances than he does; that’s a travesty in our eyes.
Perhaps Sterling’s attitude isn’t right, maybe he isn’t the perfect fit, but it does seem to be a wasted opportunity on Rovers part.
There has been some mutterings of discontent of late around Darren Moore’s side and this is another decision that does seem to be a little odd.

Can we have a different stance on this? The fact is that it is an injury blow to Kaziah Sterling that in turn has led to an opportunity-to-play blow for both Kazaih Sterling and Doncaster Rovers. It is not fair or correct to suggest Sterling’s attitude isn’t right. For the record, Kaziah Sterling is a talent that will come to the fore once he has overcome his dead leg/bleeding injury and then maintains his focus.
