‘Gives 100% every time,’ ‘Walking red card’ – These Oldham fans give honest appraisal of Shrewsbury’s new signing

Shrewsbury Town have signed former Oldham Athletic midfielder Ousmane Fané on a free transfer.

The twenty-five-year-old has signed a one-year deal at the New Meadow with an option for a further year in Salop’s favour to boost manager Sam Rickett’s engine-room ranks.

Oldham released the Frenchman in the summer after three years at Boundary Park in which he made ninety-two appearances. He was a popular figure in the north-west and was one of the few players retained by the club upon their relegation to League Two in 2018, with the club exercising an option to extend his deal.

However, Fané broke his leg and dislocated his ankle in pre-season and missed the entirety of last year with the injury.

It would appear he is now back to full fitness and his signing sparked quite the response from Oldham fans on social media who were quick to assess their former defensive-midfielder for their Shrewsbury counterparts.

Judging by their reaction, Salop have signed a wholehearted player who may lack technical ability but makes up for it with a tremendous work rate.

Indeed, there is perhaps no higher compliment for any player than fans of a previous club saying they would take him back with no hesitation.

Here is a selection of responses to the signing by Latics fans on Twitter.
