Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter’s season appears to be over as he’s suffered an injury whilst on loan with Fleetwood Town, as reported by their official website.
Rossiter has impressed during his time with the Cod Army, with manager Joey Barton going as far as to name him their player of the year so far. He came off after 76 minutes of a recent League One game with a knee injury, which scans have now revealed will put him out for the season.
With his Ibrox contract expiring at the end of this campaign, it’s a double blow for the youngster.
“It’s tough for Jordan and it looks like he could be out for the remainder of the season,” said Barton.
“He’s going to be out for a prolonged period and it’s a big blow for the team and for our group. Mentally he’s in a great place because he’s got a lot of people around him that care about him, and we’ll do everything to get him back where he belongs, which is back playing good football for us.
“I think if you stopped the season now and asked the fans who their player of the year has been, you have to put Jordan in that space because he’s been that effective for us.”
Rossiter has appeared 15 times for the League One promotion hopefuls, having previously enjoyed a loan spell with Bury. He began his career with Liverpool, moving to Ibrox in 2016. He’s been capped by England to Under 19 level, the last of his honours coming in 2016.
Our View
This is such a blow, not only for Fleetwood but also the player himself. He’s still only 22 and can bounce back from this, but he’s going to be unable to further impress the Rangers coaches.
He’s been a solid presence for Fleetwood this season and they’ll certainly miss his input. He’s young enough to come back and appears to be a resilient character.
It’s still a big knock to take though, especially with the form he’s been in.
