‘Not sustainable’, ‘Ouch’ – These Grimsby fans react to important statistic from Cheltenham draw

In a rather uninspiring evening in North Lincolnshire, Grimsby Town were held to a dour 0-0 draw by Cheltenham.

The result in itself might not be the most exciting, nor the most important the Mariners will get, but with the Robins troubling the top seven it’s a decent point at home. After a good early start, Grimsby dismissed manager Michael Jolley following a drop in form and are currently hunting a new boss.

The managed to get through to the EFL Cup Second Round earlier in the season, losing 7-1 to Chelsea and taking 5,000 fans down to West London. It seemed to usher in a new age for the club who have stagnated somewhat since coming up from the National League.

Instead, apathy has set in. Owner John Fenty is keen to sell but can’t, whilst the number of supporters has dropped, significantly. 2508 watched last night’s home fixture, with 62 hardy souls from Gloucestershire.

That drop off in numbers has not been ignored, certainly not by fans of opposition clubs.
