Liverpool join race for lightening-quick EFL forward

The race to sign exciting Peterborough forward Ricky-Jade Jones is hotting up after it emerged Liverpool had joined several other Premier League clubs in tracking the youngster.

According to the Daily Mail, Peterborough are bracing themselves for January bids for the teenager after a string of scouts have recently been spotted making the trip to London Road to watch the prospect.

The news Liverpool are now in the hunt came after reports that Posh have already knocked back a bid in the region of £2m for the seventeen-year-old.

Boss Darren Ferguson has described Jones as the quickest player he has ever worked with during his long career. The teenager made his league debut against Burton Albion on Saturday, making it four senior appearances so far this season, including two in the EFL Trophy and one in the recent FA Cup replay victory over Stevenage.

His return of two goals from those outings is eye-catching, and news of his exploits has now reached Anfield. However, Liverpool look set for a fight for his signature with Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Leicester according to the Mail.

With so many clubs keen, the report suggests Peterborough will be hoping for a bidding war for the versatile attacker at the turn of the year.

Our View

Our advice to young in-demand players in the lower leagues is to stay where you are for as long as you can, and Jones is no different.

One thing is sure he is destined for big things and is yet another example of Pereborough’s excellent record in developing young players.

It is an example many clubs could do well to follow.
