Tottenham bid for teenage star rejected by EFL club

Peterborough United have rejected a bid of £1.75m from Tottenham Hotspur for teenage sensation  Ricky-Jade Jones according to The Sun.

Described by Posh boss Darren Ferguson as the quickest player he has ever worked with during his long career. The versatile attacker only made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy last month, but a host of Premier League clubs are already closely monitoring his progress, the report claims.

The seventeen-year-old is very much on Spurs’ radar. However, the League One outfit have slapped a £10m price tag on their young star in an attempt to ward off interest from the Premier League giants.

Jones signed his first professional contract with the club on his birthday earlier this month after being with Peterborough since the age of nine. He’s made three senior starts this season, two in the EFL Trophy and one in the recent FA Cup replay victory over Stevenage.

His return of two goals from those outings is eye-catching, and Posh might have a fight on their hands to keep hold of him, with former manager David Pleat urging the Spurs hierarchy to sign the pacy youngster in his role as a consultant at the club.

With Mourinho now installed as boss at Spurs, Jones might think twice about a move to North London.

Spurs’ new boss does not have a great record of giving youth a chance, and with plenty of other suitors, the youngster might be better off continuing his development at Posh for as long as he can.

While anything printed in The Sun should be questioned, One thing seems inevitable: Jones has a bright future, and so does Peterborough’s bank balance.
