Championship boss responds to Ipswich Town recall reports

Gary Rowett has responded to talk that Ipswich Town could recall goalkeeper Bart Bialkowski, telling London News Online he hasn’t heard anything that worries him.

The Polish stopper has made 18 appearances for the Championship side as they battle against the drop. Following the 2-2 draw with Wigan, new manager Gary Rowett was asked if he’d heard anything that suggested the 31-year-old could return to Portman Road.

“I haven’t heard anything like that at all,” said Rowett. “There are certain things in the agreement that I’m aware of. It’s a case of seeing what happens.

He did confess that he wasn’t keen on losing the keeper, who has arguably been the best performer for the Lions this season.

“It is what it is. We don’t want to lose Bart – he’s a very, very good player. He’s performed very, very well for us. But at the same time we also have to have a plan in case something happens in that sense.

“Our intention is that hopefully he is here as our goalkeeper – because he’s been great – and the lads love him as well.”

Bialkowski started his English career with Southampton, spending time with Barnsley before a free transfer to Notts County. he excelled at Meadow Lane, causing Ipswich to snatch him up in 2014.

Our View

Tomas Holy has made the number shirt his own at Ipswich, with any recall for Bialkowski surely only done with the intention to sell. His performances may have seen his stock rise and if Paul Lambert could get £1m+ for his war chest in January, it would make sense.

It would be harsh on Millwall, but that’s the danger with the loan market. It’s almost a lose/lose situation for any club; a player does well and they might be recalled and either sold or used by their parent club. If they don’t do well they can stay put, but who wants a loan player not doing well?
