‘Ledge,’ ‘What an absolute beast’ – These Wycombe fans respond with lots of love to latest player tweets

Wycombe Wanderers continued their exceptional season with yet another victory at the weekend to move them top of League One and one player, in particular, was very happy with the result and his man of the match performance.

Talisman Adebayo Akinfenwa’s opener in the 2-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers was his fiftieth goal for the Chairboys, and he was understandably a delighted man when he took to Twitter to share his happiness.

The burly forward’s success in Gareth Ainsworth’s well-drilled unit is often used by their critics to advance arguments Wycombe’s tactics are nothing more than agricultural football.

However, while it is true if you watch the Chairboys you are not going to see a style of play similar to anything purists like Pep would consider football, they are effective hard-working and to be honest, you do not reach the top of any league without having more than a bit of quality.

While bigger-spending teams continue to scratch their heads at how Ainsworth is getting his group of players to maintain a credible promotion push, Wycombe fans are pinching themselves at their current position. They also rightly point out their style is now more nuanced than they are getting credit for from their opponents and salty critics.

Thirty-seven-year-old Akinfenwa sums up the spirit and underestimated quality in the camp, and his tweets provoked much love from fans for a player who is quite clearly, and rightly, a legend in Buckinghamshire.

Here is a selection of responses to his tweets on Twitter from adoring Chairboys supporters.
