‘Best striker in the league. Great business’ – These happy Newport County fans react to the latest significant club announcement

Padraig Amond has signed a contract extension with Newport County that will keep him at the League Two club until at least 2022.

The prolific striker has scored forty-four goals in one hundred and twenty-nine appearances since arriving in South Wales from Hartlepool United in 2017.

The Irishman is already Newport’s leading scorer this season, having found the net seven times in nineteen outings as Michael Flynn has once again guided the Exiles into the playoff places.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Flynn said: ‘I am delighted to see that Podge has extended his contract with the club. He was one of the first signings I made as manager and has been an integral part of the club’s positive progression over the past few seasons.’

The former Accrington, Morecambe and Grimsby Town hitman was also excited to put pen to paper and extend his stay at Rodney Parade. Amond said: ‘I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I’m extremely happy and settled at the club and have loved my time here so far.’

‘We have a great set of players, a brilliant manager and brilliant backroom staff to so it’s a very enjoyable environment to be working in.’

The announcement their talisman has committed his future to the club was not surprisingly greeted extremely positively by Exiles fans when they took to social media to react to the news. Many rate Amond the best striker in League Two, something his consistent scoring record appears to back up, and the feel-good factor currently around the club is clearly evident.

Here is just a small selection of responses on Twitter by Newport fans to what is undoubtedly great news for the club.
