Ross McCrorie has returned to parent club Rangers to begin his recovery from a hamstring injury he suffered while on loan in the EFL at Portsmouth.
The twenty-one-year-old is set to be out for up to six weeks after pulling up during Pompey’s recent 4-1 victory over League One strugglers Southend United.
The Daily Record claims the youngster was due to travel north to link up with the Scotland Under-21s during the international break and the Glasgow giants have therefore taken the opportunity to carry out the initial diagnosis themselves as he begins his rehabilitation.
McCrorie has made eleven outings for Pompey since signing a season-long loan deal in the summer. He’s previously made thirty league starts for the Gers and also enjoyed loan spells with Ayr and Dumbarton.
The versatile defender had struggled to hold down a regular spot in Kenny Jackett’s side. However, he’d recently shown the right attitude in working his way back into the first-team, establishing himself at right-back during a steady improvement in results for Pompey.
He will return to Fratton Park to continue his spell once returns to full fitness.
Our View
A real shame for McCrorie who was starting to show signs of finally settling in on the South Coast and proving his worth.
He has the talent of that there is little doubt, and his attitude in recent weeks has been commendable.
Jackett will no doubt be hoping he returns from Glasgow fit and ready to go to help him guide Pompey up the league table.
