Sunderland’s miserable run continued this afternoon as they were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Gillingham at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have won two of their last seven fixtures and were fancied against Steve Evans struggling Gillingham side in the FA Cup. All seemed to be going well as they went ahead through Aiden McGeady, with them holding a lead at half time.
Former Luton striker Olly Lee bagged a leveller for the Gills just after the restart and that’s how it remained. The home side rarely looked like breaking the deadlock and ended the afternoon with fewer shots on target than their guests.
Sunderland have a free weekend courtesy of the international break, but their replay is likely to be the 19th or 20th of November. With Scunthorpe up on Tuesday night in the EFL Trophy, the league is taking a backseat for the immediate future.
It’ll be a long drive down to Kent for the game and something the fans are not happy about. After hammering Gillingham last season, supporters feel that there has been little progress; if anything they’re going backwards. That’s certainly the feeling of these fans we’ve found on Twitter.
How are we so far from the team that battered Gillingham 4-1 away last season? We are going backwards.

Most embarrassing period of the club's history and doesn't look like it's changing any time soon. Sad to see.

We’re desperate at the minute like, let’s face it we’ve been shite since Maja left and were just lucky to even make the playoffs last season, roll on January, we need at least 3/4 players, preferably a couple who can run with a ball

Postponing the match in the break looks a good one now, now have to squeeze that in somewhere alongside the replay for this game, exactly what was our downfall last season. And also if Jack Ross didn't look like he was playing promotion football what is the state of this now!

As fans we need to realise these owners have no money and probably bought thinking they could sell for huge profits , I can’t see us ever getting back into the big league , we need at least 7 players in January to keep us in this league never mind thinking of promotion, sad times
