League One leaders Ipswich Town are set to go to Sincil Bank for a replay in the FA Cup after drawing 1-1 with Lincoln City at Portman Road.
It could have been much worse for Ipswich with Paul Lambert taking a huge risk in making ten changes to the side that played against Rochdale on Tuesday night. Oddly, Ipswich won’t have a game next weekend thanks to the international break but still felt it necessary to rest a host of first-team players.
It wasn’t a strategy that worked as lowly Lincoln laid siege to their goal, eventually taking a deserved lead through Tyler Walker in the first half. Walker turned from hero to villain in the second period as he missed a penalty which would have seen the visitors home and dry.
The home side equalised minutes later through Andre Dozzell but were forced to hang on in the dying seconds as Lincoln searched for a winner.
Ipswich fans stopped short of booing their side as they came off at full time, a courtesy they didn’t afford them after 45 minutes, but they’ll have to travel up to Lincoln, most likely on Tuesday 19th November, for an FA Cup replay.
That will conjure up images of their last trip there in 2017 when, as a Championship side, they were defeated by National League Lincoln at sincil Bank after drawing in the home fixture.
The Blues’ supporters are not happy with the decision to rest key players today, as you’ll see below.
Shock.
