The players of Macclesfield Town are considering strike action over unpaid wages putting their first round FA cup tie against Kingstonian in doubt.
According to BBC Radio Manchester, non-playing staff are also considering action if they do not receive their wages for October.
A report by Alan Nixon in the Sun claims players are fuming at the latest issues over wages and have stayed away from training before the game against the non-league side.
The furious squad wants to make a point over late wages and see the FA cup tie as an ideal way of attracting attention to their situation without hindering their league position.
Nixon reports that both the EFL and PFA have been contacted to broker a solution to the problem, but the lack of progress is a significant concern of the players.
They now feel the only option they have to put pressure on controversial owner Amar Alkhadi is to refuse to play Sunday’s match.
If the players carry out their threat, under FA rules, it could lead to Macclesfield being thrown of the competition and also barred from entering next season.
The Silkmen have previously been taken to court by players over unpaid wages, and in May, players considered boycotting the final match of last season for a similar reason.
Our View
A worrying time for fans of the Silkmen.
During the recent hearing of parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee into Bury’s demise, the EFL promised they would learn from their mistakes.
It looks like they will now have an opportunity to put those learned lessons into practice.
However, we are not holding our breath, and remain seriously concerned over the future of Macclesfield Town and the incompetence of Debbie Jevans and her cronies.
These players are not on big money and have every right to down tools.
