Freddie Sears is still a couple of months away from returning to action with League One leaders Ipswich Town, as reported by TWTD.
The former West Ham youngster has been out of action since February’s Old Farm derby in which his side were beaten 3-0. Despite missing the end of the season, he was rewarded with a two-year deal in the summer which gave him security in his recovery.
He’s yet to kick a ball this season and it seems as though he won’t be back before the arrival of 2020.
Ipswich fitness coach Jim Henry spoke of Sears progress, confirming he won’t be rushed back: “Freddie’s been training this week, he’s done some jump training just two days ago.
“I think we’re still talking about a number of months until he’s fully fit. That’s basically because we have to be careful because of [the danger of] re-injury. He’s probably a few months away still Freddie.”
Sears broke through as a trainee at Upton Park, enjoying loan spells with Crystal Palace, Scunthorpe United and Coventry. His final loan spell away from the Hammers was at Colchester, a move later made permanent.
After 29 goals in 71 starts, he bagged a move to Ipswich where he’s played 166 times in the league, scoring 30 goals.
Our View
It’ll be nice to have him back before the end of the season, but there’s really no rush. Ipswich are flying high and right now, he wouldn’t get a start.
The big question is how much impact he can have in the final months of the season and if he can prove suitability for their inevitable Championship return.
if not, his two-year deal might be a way of securing a small fee from a League One club in the summer.
