Sunderland to battle Premier League giants for talent from ‘Scotland’s most fruitful football academy’

Sunderland are amongst of big clubs chasing Bruno Davidson according to a report by the Scottish Sun.

He’s just 15-years-old but is attracting attention as a flying winger north of the border. He’s in huge demand after some eye-catching outings for Hutchison Vale, an Edinburgh-based side.

Naturally, as with most exciting Scottish talent, Celtic are paying a keen interest, as are a number of top flight English clubs. Wolves and Leicester are thought to be closely watching, with the youngster already having visited Liverpool and Southampton.

However, the Black Cats need to move quickly as it’s believed the Hoops have already lodged a bid for Davidson.

Current Black Cats star Marc McNulty came through the ranks with Hutchison Vale, or Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale to give them their full name. Kenny Miller, Gary Caldwell, Steven Caldwell and John Collins are also players to have begun their career at the Saughton Enclosure.

Such is the success of their work that the BBC described it as ‘Scotland’s most fruitful football academy’ in April.

Our View

Whilst we should perhaps be pushing the virtues of the League One club, the best move here would surely be Celtic? After all, it’s close to home and the youngster wouldn’t suffer too much upheaval.

Of all the English clubs, Sunderland would be the best bet purely because of proximity. Few fans give much thought to the boy’s mental state and how he might settle, but at 15 he’s best served being close to family and friends, developing in a comfortable environment.

A move to Southampton would be crazy, given how far away from home he’d be.
