Colchester United have been drawn away to Premier League giants Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
The draw is a magnificent reward for the Essex outfit who have already dumped Tottenham and Crystal Palace out the competition before disposing of fellow League Two side Crawley Town in round four.
John McGreal’s men will travel north knowing that their cup exploits have helped to secure the immediate financial future of the club. They will no doubt also take heart from Rochdale’s outstanding performance at Old Trafford earlier in the competition when the Red Devils needed a penalty shoot-out to see off the struggling League One outfit.
While an away tie appears to make a giant-killing less likely, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to make sure his players do not underestimate the U’s, or a shock could be on the cards. He will undoubtedly have to make certain his team do not approach the game in the same manner as many of their fans on social media, who feel it is already a formality United will be in the semi-final draw.
Maybe McGreal should pin up some of the United fans comments on the dressing room wall to inspire his squad.
