‘Longest trial since OJ’ – These Crewe fans react as former Millwall defender finally signs

Crewe Alexandra have announced the signing of central defender Christian Mbulu.

The twenty-three-year-old spent the summer training with the Railwaymen, and he’s finally agreed on a short-term deal with the club. He will provide boss Dave Artell with another option in the heart of the Alex defence following a worrying injury to Olly Lancashire.

Mbulu joined Millwall in 2015 after helping non-league Brentwood Town to promotion. He failed to establish himself at the New Den, where he enjoyed a loan spell at National League outfit Braintree Town before a successful trial saw him earn a contract with Motherwell in the summer of 2018.

He made six appearances in the Scottish Premier League last term before spending the summer training at Crewe following his release by the Steelmen.

The defender featured in several pre-season games for the Alex but a contract never materialized, until now.

His signing prompted a mixed reaction on social media from Crewe fans, with many questioning why it had taken so long to clinch the deal.

Others were happy that the he was joining their ranks and wished him all the best.

Here is a selection of responses to the former Millwall defender finally joining the League Two leaders on Twitter.
