As we covered last week, Newcastle United are set to review Elias Sorensen’s loan at Carlisle United in January.
Originally reported by the Shields Gazette, it’s believed his lack of game time is worrying those in charge of his development at St James’ Park. The twenty-year-old forward signed a season-long loan deal with the Cumbrians in the summer with a view to gaining first team experience.
That’s not been the case, he’s found opportunities limited at Brunton Park as they’ve struggled in League Two. He’s only made one start in the basement division and is yet to register a goal.
That’s led to a suggestion that Shola Ameobi, the loans coordinator for the Toon, may bring him back to his parent club in the summer before another move out to a league club, or a spell back in their Under 23 side.
“It’s a difficult one,” coach Neil Redfearn said. “I know I have said on the record in the past that he needs to fight it out, but obviously the idea of him going out on loan is that he plays. So if he’s on the bench and not coming on, it’s not what we want, it’s not what we need.”
It’s also not what Newcastle fans want to hear either. Other clubs see success loaning players out; Callum O’Hare is doing well at Coventry from Aston Villa and Spurs’ Jack Roles is excelling at Cambridge. They want to see their own young talent thrive as well, as you’ll see from their replies below.
Shola is managing loans like he did forward play. Epic fails all over the show.

Benitez saw it coming. He said something must be done with those loans. What our glorious leaders did? Hired the R's licking Shola. That's it. Period.

We've had 4 potentially great strikers last decade in the youth (Ranger, Armstrong, Campbell and Sorensen) who have all been tearing up the youth league but their further development and loans have failed, something needs to be looked at

He has not even shown potential during his loan spell against poor quality opponents so that tells you everything about him

you can't compare him and Adam Campbell. even if elias doesn't make it I'll always remember the Danish geordie. if you watch his interview you'll see what I mean 🤣
