Oldham Athletic’s terrible form continued as they were beaten 1-0 at home to Macclesfield Town on Saturday.
A dour first-half saw few chances for either side, with a Tom Harmer effort that went well wide the only thing the Latics really had to show for a lacklustre display that saw the Silkmen control much of the possession.
Dino Maamria’s men offered more of a goal threat in the second forty-five minutes but Maouche and Wheater both missed decent chances before Macclesfield yielded a hammer blow through an eighty-seventh minute Jack McCourt free-kick.
There was still time for Oldham to have an effort cleared off the line, but the defeat left them in twenty-first place with just eleven points and prompted a vitriolic reaction on social media from devastated and angry fans.
All is not well at Boundary Park as the following selection of responses to the result on Twitter illustrates.
Shambles

Little point moaning after another abject performance from this set of below par players. Barring Maouche, most tried but they are so far below the standard required in this dreadful league. Hamer is the only light for me & player I can really relate to… sold in Jan #oafc
