More agony for Oldham, Crewe go marching on: Our League Two expert examines the weekend ahead

Crewe v Swindon

Two teams with genuine hopes of promotion clash at Gresty Road, but it is Crewe who go into the game in better form.

They won 4-2 at Brunton Park last time out and are on an unbeaten run of five league games. DavidĀ Artell’s young side play an attacking 4-3-3 formation which has so far gleaned a division high 23 goals with in-formĀ centre-forward, Chris Porter, proving to be a real handful this season with six.

Meanwhile, Swindon’s form has dipped over the last month after an excellent start, and although the Robins have lost just one of their previous six away league games, only one win in their last six matches in all competitions means they have dropped down the League Two table to seventh. They were held by Plymouth last time out and their previous away game ended in a 2-1 defeat at Bradford City. The form of the division’s top scorer Eoin Doyle means Richie Wellens side don’t struggle for goals, but the long-term loss of club captain Dion Conroy has been significant and forced Wellens into the free-agent market for cover, with Gabriel Zakuani recently joining the club. Injuries are stretching the Robins resources, and they could be without Keshi Anderson and Lloyd Isgrove as they look for a return to form in Cheshire.

We take Crewe to tighten their grip on an automatic promotion place and extend their unbeaten run to six with a hard-fought win. However, The Railwaymen have scored in all of their last eight matches and have conceded in 83% of their home games so it looks a good bet that both teams will score in what should be a very entertaining game at Gresty Road.
