Arsenal are interested in Scunthorpe United youngster Joey Dawson according to a recent report in the Sun.
The teenage midfielder is the son of former Iron defender and first-team coach Andy Dawson and the nephew of former Spurs centre-half Michael Dawson.
The talented sixteen-year-old became the youngest first-team player in Scunthorpe’s history in August when he came off the bench in their 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Derby County.
Dawson is highly regarded at Glanford Park, and while Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann recently stated on BBC Humberside there had been no official approach by the Premier League club for his services, he did admit scouts have been tracking his progress.
The Sun report suggests the North London giants are keeping close tabs on the highly-rated young midfielder and are considering making a move for him in January.
Dawson’s uncle made three hundred and twenty-four appearances for Spurs in a nine and a half year spell at the club and is currently turning out for Nottingham Forest in the Championship after a period at Hull City.
Our View
The youngster would do well to sit tight at Scunthorpe for the time being, in our opinion.
If he’s good enough, he will eventually get his move, but for now, we feel he should stay at Glanford Park and learn his trade.
However, one thing is for sure, he comes from a football family, and I’m confident they will give him much better advice than we can.
I guess the fun question is, will Uncle Michael tip Spurs off and convince them to sign his talented nephew and scupper their rivals plans?
