‘We’re a disgrace and a shambles!’ – These angry Southend fans react to yet another defeat

Southend United’s woes continued last night with a 2-0 home defeat by Brighton Under-21s in front of a record low attendance at Roots Hall.

Just six hundred and forty-one hardy souls bothered to turn up for the EFL Trophy group game, the lowest gate for a first-team match in the Shrimpers history.

It was a bleak and disappointing night all round for Southend, who have now only won two games all season, losing an eye-watering eleven. Caretaker boss Gary Waddock made nine changes for the game but was left fuming at a terrible display from players who failed to grasp their opportunity to stake a claim for a league start. Indeed, they didn’t even muster a shot on target against the youngsters.

Waddock’s anger was shared by many of the Shrimpers long-suffering supporters when they took to social media to react to the result. Plenty of fans were quick to post they felt the current side is the worst in the club’s long history. It also appears apathy is starting to replace anger at the plight of the club with some supporters stating the display was the final straw, and they would not be going back to Root Hall this season.

It really is a dire situation at the club, with no new manager appointment close, it appears things might get worse for the Shrimpers before they get better.

Here is a small selection of responses to the result on Twitter.
