Coventry City took on Rugby Town last night in the Birmingham Senior Cup and have survived an injury scare to striker Max Biamou.
He started in the ten role of a 4-2-3-1 formation last night, playing behind Amadou Bakayoko. A strong Sky Blues side also included Gervane Kastaneer, Zain Westbrooke and Sam McCallum.
Charlie Wakefield, Amadou Bakayoko and Michael Rose gave the visitors a 3-1 half time lead, with Biamou and Westbrooke netting in the final ten minutes to add some gloss to the scoreline.
Biamou was injured in scoring his goal though and received lengthy treatment on the edge of the pitch, much to the concern of the watching Sky Blues fans.
The injury isn’t as serious as first thought though, with Jason Farndon confirming after the encounter that is was merely cramp troubling the 28-year-old.
Biamou joined Coventry from Sutton United and is only just making his way back into the side after an ACL injury sustained in a game against Blackpool in August 2018. He’s appeared 45 times for the Sky Blues in the league, 22 of which were starts, and bagged five goals.
Our View
When any player is returning from injury there’s always a fear that he had a relapse. Jodi Jones came back from his ACL injury only to pick up another one and Sky Blues fans were doubtless terrified that Biamou suffered the same fate.
The former Sutton man clearly just needs senior action to return to full fitness, but he played a part in the rout of Rugby.
Coventry, with a small squad, need to stay clear of injuries if they’re going to keep up their promotion challenge in League One.
