Ambitious Coventry City striker Amadou Bakayoko has outlined his three big targets for this season.
Speaking to Coventry Live after his late goal at St Andrew’s on Saturday rescued a point for the Sky Blues in a 1-1 draw with Doncaster and maintained City’s unbeaten start to their League One campaign the twenty-three-year-old said his targets were twenty goals, a new contract and promotion. He said: ‘I want to get promoted with this club. That’s what I am here to do, that’s the target to hopefully to get the club up and help as much as possible.’
The striker has become something of a cult hero for Sky Blues supporters since joining from Walsall in 2018. His terrace chant refers to him somewhat ironically at times, scoring twenty goals and the support he’s received is vital for the frontman. He said: ‘The fans give me a massive boost when they sing it.’
‘I want to get there (20 goals), and I think I will get there at some point.’
‘Everyone hits form at different points, and hopefully, I can hit it as soon as possible.’
He then added that a new deal was also at the forefront of his thinking, ‘I think everyone has to earn it,” he said.
‘And everyone hits their form at different times in order to get it.’
After scoring seven goals last term, Saturday’s leveller was Bakayoko’s first of the season in only his ninth appearance, and Sky Blues fans are desperate for him to kick on and achieve his targets.
Our View
Supporters love a passionate player who keeps proving their critics wrong and Bakayoko falls into that category.
He might not be the finished article, but when left out of the team, he gets his head down and works harder to take his opportunity when it comes.
It was a great strike on Saturday and showed the quality manager Robins can call upon from the bench.
Sky Blues fans rightly love him and would be ecstatic if he fulfils his ambitions this season.
