Ipswich Town ensured their solid start to the season continued with a routine victory over struggling Tranmere Rovers at Portman Road this afternoon.
The game could have been about James Norwood, the former Tranmere man currently impressing in the south east, but he wasn’t amongst the goals as the home side ran out 4-1 winners.
Tranmere, who have nine points from ten games and are just outside the dropzone, never looked like causing an upset with Luke Garbutt opening the scoring for the Tractor Boys. Stefan Payne tapped in a leveller to give them brief hope, but it was short-lived.
Kayden Jackson restored the lead after the break before Jon Nolan grabbed his first goal of the season to put Paul Lambert’s side in the driving seat. The rout was completed on 70 minutes when Kane Vincent-Young added a fourth.
The win sees Ipswich remain clear at the top of the table as they hunt an immediate return to the Championship, something these supporters are delighted about.
