‘Wear the tracksuit every week’ – Plenty of Sunderland fans give unusual advice to Jack Ross after cup shock

Sunderland from League One booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with an impressive 1-0 away win at Premier League Sheffield United last night.

Max Power’s excellent ninth-minute strike from twenty-five yards was enough to put the Lads through after the Blades couldn’t find a way to beat Lee Burge in the Sunderland net.

Backed by their usual passionate support, the Wearsiders could have had a second just after half-time, but Luke O’Nien’s effort came back off the post.

The result was only Sunderland’s second win since they knocked out another Premier League side Burnley in the previous round and pressure had been mounting on manager Jack Ross with many fans demanding his sacking.

However, the manager’s popularity increased amongst some supporters on social media in the aftermath of the victory, with many superstitious fans putting the win down to Ross changing his usual smart casual touchline attire for a tracksuit and advised him to keep wearing it if he wants to keep winning.

Nonetheless, many fans still want the Scot out the club even after the win, pointing out that in their view, whether he wears a tracksuit or not, results in League One have not been good enough, especially the recent 1-1 draw at Bolton.

Here is a selection of some of the more tongue in cheek responses to the result on Twitter.
