Luke Chambers has told the East Anglian Daily Times that he thinks big clubs will soon be paying attention to keeper Tomas Holy.
The giant Czech keeper left Gillingham in the summer for Portman Road and has become a fan favourites for the Tractor Boys. With his laid-back demeanour and safe hands, he’s already established himself as a key player for Paul Lambert’s side.
That can only lead to interest from higher up the football pyramid, as Chambers told the local press.
“He’s a humble man,” he said. “You can see in his interviews those endearing qualities.
“We know that if the ball coming in isn’t of the right quality then he is going to come and catch it. That means, as a defender, you don’t have to get involved in things you really shouldn’t be. That’s a huge, huge bonus.”
He went on to assert that if the performances continue, then it will only lead to bigger clubs beginning to look at the 27-year-old stopper, who began his career at Sparta Prague.
“The improvement I’ve seen from day when he arrived at the club to now is massive. Huge credit has to go to (goalkeeper coach) Jimmy Walker and to Will Norris for pushing him and keeping on his toes. Every day he is getting better.
“For me, I don’t think it will be too long before people are having a look at him.”
Our View
Holy is a great character; we’ve seen him in interviews and he’s relaxed, fan-friendly and instantly likeable.
All of that is fine, but if it’s not backed up with performances it’s irrelevant. That’s not the case either; Tomas Holy is a big character and a big player too.
He’s been impressive for Ipswich this season and there’s no reason why that won ‘t continue. He’s got plenty of quality and Luke Chambers is right other teams will surely soon be having a closer look.
