‘Get rid. He’ll take us nowhere’ – These Salford City fans turn on manager after latest defeat

Salford City slipped to a heavy away defeat at the weekend, going down 4-1 to high-flying Crewe.

It was a disappointing second-half performance from the Ammies that put paid to any hope their four hundred and ninety-eight travelling fans had of getting a result after Adam Ronney had given them a first-half lead.

A double from Tommy Lowery and goals from Porter and Pickering in a blistering second forty-five minutes secured all three points for the Railwaymen and left them in second place in the table.

However, the defeat for Salford added to what has been a difficult start in League Two for the newly-promoted club who now sit Seventeenth in the table. Boss Graham Alexander was dumfounded to explain how his side abandoned their gameplan in the second half and called on his players to show more desire when Forest Green Rovers pay a visit to the Peninsula Stadium next week. He said: ‘There are two ways of reacting, we feel sorry for ourselves and do what we did in the second half or we fight like hell to make sure people think us as good professionals and good men who want to compete and will do anything to win.’

‘There are only two choices in life really, that’s it, fight or flight, so there’s only one answer for me, but we need 20 people doing it.’

His words did not appear to cut much ice with some Salford fans when they took to social media with many starting to question whether Alexander is the right man for the job. Some feel with financial backing the club benefits from; the team should be performing much better, with the blame fairly and squarely placed on Alexanders shoulders.

Here is a selection of responses to the result and Alexanders comments on Twitter.
