Newcastle United are monitoring the situation of young striker Elias Sorensen at League Two side Carlisle United as reported by the Chronicle.
The twenty-year-old signed a season-long loan deal with the Cumbrians in the summer to gain valuable first-team experience and aid his development, but he’s so far started just one game for manager Steven Pressley, a 1-0 away win at Scunthorpe United.
While he’s regularly appeared as a late second-half substitute, he cut a frustrated figure during Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Forest Green Rovers at Brunton Park when he sat warming the bench without being used for the whole ninety minutes.
Indeed, according to the report the young prospect turned out for Carlisle reserves last week in a game against Hartlepool, playing even further down the ladder than he would be in Premier League 2 with Newcastle.
When recently asked to comment on the situation Steven Pressley suggested there were no guarantees given to the Premier League club on the number of minutes Sorenson should play and that his selection or not was entirely down to Carlisle.
The Magpies have terminated loan deals for similar reasons in the past, most recently when calling Cal Roberts back from a spell at Gateshead a few years ago.
The report claims Newcastle loan manager Shola Ameobi will keep tabs on Sorensen’s situation at Brunton Park.
Our View
Perhaps Sorensen should get his head down, get fit and make the most of his opportunity by proving his worth to Pressley?
Or is the under-fire manager clueless and refusing to use him for some reason?
We think the truth is probably nearer the first statement than the second.
Pressley has shown with the trust he’s put in young Villa prospect Harry McKirdy he’s not afraid to allow youth to flourish and he is now a star man for the League Two outfit, getting plenty of minutes
If Sorensen is taken back by Newcastle, it will only be another example of fussing and pampering young Premier League players.
They should leave Sorensen at Brunton Park and see if he can come out the other side not only a better player but also a better person.

Bit worrying and you have to ask is Sorensen trouble? The quality is there in spades but for two managers not to give a real goal scorer game time you have to ask is he behaving as they expect.
