Jack Ross sparked debate amongst Sunderland supporters yesterday after he blasted the criticism levelled at his side after their 3-1 victory at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
Ross angrily reacted when asked to comment on the performance in Lancashire in his press conference ahead of tonight’s game with Rotherham, calling the negativity ‘almost like an anchor stopping the club moving forward.’
Sunderland currently sit fifth in the fledgeling League One table and have only lost one league game so far this season, but the forty-three-year-old continues to receive criticism for his style of play and tactics with many fans wanting him out of the Stadium of Light.
Some even reacted favourably to an article in the national media yesterday claiming Sam Allardyce would be open to a return to Wearside once the well-publicised proposed takeover of the club goes through.
While a manager must always be careful when criticising the culture of his club, many Sunderland fans agreed with his comments and praised him for calling out the sense of entitlement amongst a section of the Sunderland fanbase when they took to social media to comment.
However, some are still not happy and took the age-old view of supporters that once you have paid your money you are entitled to an opinion, even if it is an adverse reaction in the wake of a 3-1 away victory.
Here is a selection of responses to their manager’s comments on Twitter.
Let's all burry our heads in the sand and say we are playing well. As a fan you have to call it as you see it. If we play well like Wimbledon game the team get plaudits. If we win but struggle for large periods why shouldnt questions be asked?

Should be on Rouge Traders because he’s a professional at papering over the cracks this guy. Get him out.

He should think himself lucky to still be in a job considering last seasons failure. We still can’t defend and we still don’t control games.

1 defeat, 2 draws, beat premier burnley, 11 goals in 5 games, 18 in 9, 2 points off top and a game in hand….fairly sure JR isn't the negative one🤔🧐🤔🧐

Almost every attack by our opponents looks likely to end up in a goal, that is the big problem. It was the same last season, we still don’t have defenders who can defend.
Does jack Ross know
He is coming to the end of his stint at sol.a lot of people know the new take over is stalled because they don’t want him as the manager and he is not the only one either ie Donald’s sidekick is earmarked to be given the shove,so all of this behind the scenes is effecting jack Ross attitude.i agree with a lot pf what people are saying thiis league is very poor and we should of gone up last season never mind this season.so where does the blame lie YES at jack Ross door there is no getting away from it.the facts show what went wrong last season ie sending a team out not to get beat instead of sending a team out to win.so some people are sticking up for him,why I don’t know.yes only one defeat so far this season but we still looking very poor on the field.no pace nothing getting created on the fiels and he just stands there has if he is at a funeral.ross out I say.
