Sunderland fans have been left with plenty to debate this weekend after former Englan manager Sam Allardyce admitted he’d be happy to take over at the Stadium of Light once again.
Reports suggest he is ‘open’ to a return to Wearside, after leaving them to take over as England manager for one fateful game, before the scandal of his video sting broke.
He’s not been back in a job, but since he left Sunderland have seen back to back relegations and a double Wembley agony last season. Jack Ross has lost just one match so far this season, but his tenure has been plagued with accusations of unattractive football.
Even after beating Accrington Stanley at the weekend, some fans on Twitter were calling for his head. With a takeover closing in, there’s a very real chance a new owner may want a new manager and a change of direction.
That’s likely prompted Allardyce to speak out and stake his claim for the role. Would he be a popular choice to return to the Stadium of Light?
These fans are Twitter seem split by the news.
Anyone who doesnt want Sam Allardyce back is nuts. It's like Lewis Hamilton coming to pick you up but saying nah, I'll let Stevie Wonder take me #safc

Don't think sam would come back. But for people to say they would rather stick with Ross is mind boggling.

He can’t leave till he’s offered something though regardless of rumours or background talk. If he resigned then took the England job we wouldn’t have got compo so I still don’t get the issue

Who cares? 1) it isn't your money
2) the new owners strike me as shrewd business men. They aren't gunna piss money away as we have in the past. Besides I see Allardyce as very much good enough to make us competitive in the Championship in 3-4 seasons— Peter Mac 🔴⚪ (@petermac23) September 15, 2019
All this crap needs to stop…concentrate on what we've got and behind the current regime. Fans talking about Allardyce when the deal isn't even signed and we've no idea what their plans are, it's pathetic

the clubs business dealings have been very poor. Sunderland should have had a compnesation clause for relegation in the sale contract of sunderland.Jumping horses mid stream?
