Sunderland are scouting Motherwell striker James Scott as reported by TeamTalk via the Chronicle.
The report claims the Black Cats are watching the 6ft 2in forward with a view to signing him, but face stiff competition from several Premier League sides.
The nineteen-year-old signed a new deal in February potentially keeping him at Fir Park until 2022. He’s already scored three times this season in the Scottish League Cup and is highly-regarded at Motherwell with many predicting a bright future for the youngster.
According to TeamTalk, Everton, Southampton, Bournemouth and Sheffield United are all keeping tabs on his progress, but the lure of first-team football and the ambitions of Sunderland’s new owners in waiting could be a strong attraction for the teenager.
The Scotland Under-21 international has made twenty-four outings for the Well since making his debut last year, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by Sunderland boss jack Ross who has many contacts in Scotland and a strong Scottish contingent amongst his squad.
Our View
It wouldn’t be a transfer window without every available striker likely to make an impact in League One linked with Sunderland and with over three months until the January transfer window opens, the rumours are starting already.
The crucial factor in Sunderland’s dealings will be the form of Will Grigg who appears to have become a peripheral figure at the Stadium of Light.
If Grigg continues to struggle, Ross might cut his losses in January and Scott could be the ideal back-up for McNulty and Whyke.
