New Bolton owner reveals her dream for the season

New Bolton Wanderers owner Sharon Brittan has revealed her dream for the season after taking over the famous old club.

Speaking on the BBC Sport website, she said that despite starting the campaign with a twelve point deduction she felt it was not impossible to achieve League One safety.

The inability to sign any players while the protracted takeover was going through led to the club completing its opening fixtures with a team made up of youth players and five games into the new campaign they sit sixteen points from safety without a league goal to their name.

However, the appointment of Keith Hill as manager and a frantic Deadline Day that saw nine new signings has reignited optimism at the club and Brittan said it was ‘not an impossible dream’ for the Trotters to avoid the drop.

Although stressing the existence of a longer-term plan, Brittan was keen for the club to fight every step of the way this season. She said: ‘We have to be real – the three-year plan is that we’re going to do everything that we can to fight to stay up this season,’ before adding ‘it’s a tall order, but it’s not impossible.’

Brittan led the Football Ventures takeover which saved the troubled club from extinction, and she added that after first being introduced to the club in December, when news the acquisition had finally gone through reached her London Offices at the end of August, ‘we made so much noise and screaming that apparently there was a complaint lobbied against us for getting overexcited.’

Bolton travel to play Rotherham on Saturday desperate for three points to kick start their season.

Our View

From someone who supports a club whose former manager once famously said ‘impossible is just an opinion, Brittan’s words ring true.

They will also be music to the ears of Bolton fams who now want to get on with watching football matches if they survive they will have had one hell of a campaign.

Putting aside the politics and criticism the EFL rightly received for its handling of the whole situation, Bolton fans deserve to see their team winning again.
