Colchester United have re-signed former Reading winger Callum Harriott on a free transfer.
The Guyana international has been without a club since leaving the Royals at the end of last season following twenty-five Championship appearances and two second-tier goals in his three-year spell.
The twenty-five-year-old attacker enjoyed a hugely successful loan stint with the U’s during the 2015-16 season scoring seven goals in twenty-three outings.
His form in Essex helped earn him a move from Charlton Athletic to the Madejski Stadium, but he’s failed to establish himself with the Royals and joins the U’s on a two-year deal.
Colchester have enjoyed a decent start to their League Two campaign after a difficult summer that saw star men such as Sammie Szmodics and Frankie Kent leave the club. However, boss John McGreal has worked quietly and diligently to re-build his squad, and many fans feel the signing of Harriott is the final piece in the jigsaw for a sustained promotion push.
From the social media reaction, the pacy wide man certainly made an impression on U’s fans in his first spell, and many believe McGreal will now finally lead them back to League One after a three-year absence.
There appears to be a feel-good feeling around the club with the signing coming on the same day it announced its website crashed under the weight of demand for tickets for the U’s upcoming Carabao Cup clash with Premier League Tottenham Hotspur.
