Grimsby Town made their final addition of the summer on Deadline Day when they signed Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson on loan until January.
The twenty-two-year-old has so far made fourteen senior appearances for the Black Cats having emerged through their youth system. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Dundee, making thirteen outings for the Dark Blues.
The young prospect follows in the footsteps of Elliot Embleton who enjoyed a successful loan stint at Blundell Park in 2018/19 and Robson told the club’s official website that his teammates positive experience at Grimsby influenced his decision to sign for the Mariners. He said: ‘He (Embleton) had nothing but good words to say about the club. I think that his experience here was a part in me coming here.’
Embleton has since come into the first-team reckoning at the Stadium of Light and Robson will be hoping to follow a similar path. However, when Sunderland fans took to social media, many felt the time was now right for Robson to become a feature in jack Ross’ side and the club had made a mistake in letting him go.
Grimsby have had a great start to the season, and their fans were generally delighted to have Robson with the club, and their positivity over the signing must have increased when they read the comments of Sunderland fans.
The only concern seems to be Robson’s poor injury record, but most Black Cats supportersĀ felt that if he can stay fit, Grimsby have themselves a quality League Two midfielder.
Here is a selection of their responses to the signing on Twitter.
