Swindon Town completed their summer transfer business with the Deadline Day loan signing of Shrewsbury midfielder Anthony Grant.
The thirty-two-year-old will ply his trade at the County Ground until January and joins off the back of making forty-two outings in League One for Salop last season, an appearance record which triggered a new one-year contract.
The much-travelled schemer emerged through the ranks at Chelsea where he made one senior appearance as a ninetieth-minute substitute at Old Trafford in 2005.
Whilst at Stamford Bridge, he enjoyed loan spells at Oldham, Wycombe, Luton and Southend. His move to Southend was made permanent in 2008 and he went to make one hundred and forty-nine appearances for the Shrimpers before moving on to Stevenage, Port Vale and finally Peterborough where he made forty-eight league starts before joining the Shrews last summer.
Grant was controversially absent at the start of pre-season training following dental surgery and was forced to train with the League One side’s youth team after being banished from the first team for the season for “in house” reasons.
There seems little doubt he can play but fans have often questioned his attitude, borne out by the social media response to the signing.
Grant is clearly an excellent addition for a League Two club but it appears the success of the signing could depend on Robins boss Richie Wellens ability to motivate and man manage the controversial star, as the following selection of supporter reaction to the signing on Twitter illustrates.
