Nottingham Forest loanee Jason Cummings has aimed a cheap shot at his previous managers after completing a loan move to Shrewsbury, as reported by their official site.
The Scottish striker endured a torrid season last time out, having spells with Luton and Peterborough which didn’t bring him expected senior appearances. His time with Posh was marred when he was filmed smashing up his own flat, leading to him leaving the club halfway through his loan.
Having struggled for games since leaving Hibernian for Forest, the striker is delighted to have found a manager who wants him at their club.
“I’m delighted to be here, I spoke to the Gaffer a few weeks ago and he was really keen to get me in”, said Cummings.
“That’s half the battle, finding a manager who wants you. Over the last season or so I haven’t played as much as I would have wanted. This season for me is just about playing games, enjoying my football and scoring goals and the gaffer says he can help me with that.”
He added that knowing manager Sam Ricketts wants him was half of the battle when making a choice.
“It is a good feeling when a manager wants you. I signed for other clubs where it’s the club that signs you rather than the manager, but at the end of the day, it’s the manager who picks the team.
“Sam has shown confidence that he wants me here so when the chance came up again in the summer it was a no brainer.”
Cummings will likely go straight into the Salop squad for tonight’s trip to Port Vale, with a free Saturday coming up at the weekend.
Our View
Cummings should smash League One. Until his indiscretion last season he was doing well at Peterborough, but after he faded away.
The Luton move was tough, they had a settled strike force and needed cover. Cummings needs games, desperately.
If he manages to get some minutes in, he should score for fun in League One.
