Celtic and Sunderland target misses fixture for current club

Greg Taylor, the left-back on the radar of both Sunderland and Celtic, is set to miss this afternoon’s match for his current club Kilmarnock, as reported by the Daily Record.

The Scotland international has been struggling with a groin injury but returned to training earlier this week. It’s been reported that the Black Cats had a bid turned down for him early this week, thought to be in the region of £750,000.

That’s some way short of the £3m valuation slapped on him by Kilmarnock, a price Celtic have already baulked at.

That hasn’t stopped either club hunting the former Rangers trainee, with Killie manager Angelo Alessio confirming that the Hoops have held talks with the defender.

They’re looking to replace Kieran Tierney who recently completed a big money move to Premier League side Arsenal.

Kilmarnock travel to St Johnstone this afternoon looking for their first win of the season. They’ve endured a tough start to this campaign having also been knocked out of the Europa League by minnows Connah’s Quay.

Our View

This might be something of nothing, but when a key player misses out on a big game like this it’s usually good news.

Celtic would seem a natural choice for the defender, especially with Sunderland unlikely to be prepared to go to £3m. However, after their pursuit of Will Grigg last season, anything is possible.
