Rangers winger close to joining Rotherham United

Rangers winger Jake Hastie is close to joining League One Rotherham United on a season-long loan as reported by the Daily Record.

The report claims the twenty-year-old is set to leave Ibrox on a temporary deal with Steven Gerrard keen for him to play first-team football.

According to the Record, former club Motherwell and Swiss outfit Zurich were both interested in Hastie but the player prefered to continue his development in England.

The midfielder joined the Glasgow giants in the summer after agreeing on a pre-contract switch from Motherwell, but he is yet to make a single league appearance for the Light Blues, featuring just twice against St Josephs and East Fife in the Europa League and Scottish League Cup.

He scored seven goals in eighteen outings for the Steelmen and also enjoyed loan spells at Alloa and Airdireonians before arriving at Ibrox on a four-year deal.

Our View

A good signing for Rotherham who have been searching for width all summer with many fans critical of the 4-3-3 formation boss Paul Warne has employed in their opening League One fixtures.

Hastie showed in his displays at Motherwell he is a talented young player and Millers fans will be hoping he adds some much-needed creativity and goals to their forward options.
