Sunderland bid for Celtic transfer target

Sunderland have made a bid for Celtic transfer target, Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor as reported by the Daily Record.

The report claims the Rugby Park outfit now have offers on the table from the Scottish champions and the English League One giants but is yet to accept either bid with talks ongoing with both parties.

Taylor caught the eye last season as he helped Kilmarnock finish third in the Scottish Premiership and qualify for the Europa League with some outstanding displays. He’s made one hundred and thirty-one appearances for Killie across all competitions since he emerged through their youth ranks in 2016.

The twenty-one-year-old won his first cap for Scotland in June when he played the whole ninety minutes of a European Championship qualifier against beaten World Cup semi-finalists, Belgium.

Sunderland are known to be in the market for a new left-back following the summer departures of Bryan Oviedo and Reece James leaving academy graduate Denver Hume the only recognised left-back in the first-team squad.

Celtic first inquired about the left-back last week, but the deal cooled when Kilmarnock told them they would have to pay £3 million for the defender.

The report claims the hoops are still interested but now face stiff competition from the Black Cats to secure his services.

Our View

An interesting deal if this one comes off for the Black Cats.

Taylor is highly rated, but Celtic baulked at the £3 million asking price.

If the Scotland international lands at the Stadium of Light it will be a sure sign new investment is definitely on the way into the Sunderland coffers.
