Sunderland have signed former QPR defender Joel Lynch on a free transfer making him their sixth summer signing.
The thirty-one-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Wearsiders following his release by the Hoops at the end of last season.
Predominantly a centre-back, the experienced campaigner can also operate at left-back, so could provide much-needed cover for Denver Hulme.
Lynch has made three hundred and ninety-six senior appearances, with more than two hundred outings coming at Championship level for Brighton, Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town, and QPR.
Most Sunderland fans seemed delighted with the capture on social media but must have taken a sharp intake of breath when they read comments by fans of the defenders previous club.
Lynch made eighty-five League starts during his spell at Loftus Road following his arrival from Huddersfield in 2016, and according to QPR fans, he seems to like Christmas off. Lynch has been either suspended or injured over Christmas in eight of the last nine seasons.
It is fair to say plenty of fans in West London do not rate the Black Cats new defensive addition but some Hoops fans did concede he could probably do a decent job in League One.
